Memories of the victims of Holocaust

Today, by the laying of wreath at the memorial of once-used to be synagogue, at the corner of Jevrejska and Sarajlijina Streets, the International Holocaust Remembrance Day has been marked in Zrenjanin – in the memory of the persecution of the Jew people during the Second World War.The representatives of the City of Zrenjanin, Jewish Community and the Board of the League of Social Democrats of Vojvodina. On the behalf of the City of Zrenjanin the wreath was laid by the Mayor dr Mileta Mihajlov and the President of the City Assembly Aleksandar Marton.
The Mayor highlighted the importance of this date reminding of all the victims of the Second World War.
- Today, at the place where a synagogue used to be, we revive the remembrance of Jewish victims but also of the victims of other communities, six millions in total,  at the same time we are appealing that this will not happen again – said Mileta Mihajlov.
Aleksandar Marton, the President of the City Assembly, pointed out that during the first days of the Second World War in Petrovgrad, today's Zrenjanin, almost the whole of the Jewish population disappeared, and by this wreath laying the City pays  respect to them every year.

- This is a proof that Zrenjanin is open for all and that it is important to remember even bad moments, such as eh suffering of a whole community. The International Holocaust Remembrance Day has to remind us of the number of victims of fascism and Nazism, and this graphite, which we have seen today, is also unacceptable and I hope it will be removed soon. At the same time I am appealing to  young people particularly, that no extremism will n ot be tolerated – said Aleksandar Marton, approving the Holocaust Remembrance lesson that  only  Zrenjanin  Grammar School introduced, as the only school in Serbia.
