Fighting corruption and discrimination is necessary

On the occassion of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, in the City Hall, a public lesson is held   for the  students of Zrenjanin  Gymnasium and Economic- Trade School "Jovan Trajković".  The Ombudswoman Deputy, Irena Tapavički, talked to them about children's rights and gender equality as well as  Aleksandar Marton, the President of the City Assembly.
 

      

 

According to them the issue of racism is important since it is one of the forms of discrimination and intolerance. Also, children have to be aware of their rights and of the rights of others. Each person has the right to be equal, no matter of skin colour, religion, nationality, sex, economical status, but, on the other hand, every person has to respect the same rights. At the same time, this is an excellent opportunity for teenagers to become informed about the Draft version of Children's Rights Law and Declaration of children's rights protection.
 

      

Aleksandar Marton, the President of the City Assembly reminds that there are still the reflections of nationalism and fascism even 67 years after the victory over it. This includes racism but such a behaviour is not properly punished so there are frequent incidents regarding t his issue, generally, not only in Serbia.  In the Balkans there may not be so much of original deep root racism  since there are not the members of other races, but  young  people should be  informed, taught   and brought up in the manner of good rational relations.

 

A ggod  example  for  this is the  first  public lesson about Holocaust that Zrenjanin Gymnasium held and the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Serbia should  ban all extremely  right, fascistic, racist, nationalist groups to prevent  idealisation of some individuals  leading  such groups.
