Works on Tisa mound reconstruction

Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Goran Knežević visited the building site of Tisa mound reconstruction near Zrenjanin which was funded by the World Bank  with  6 million Euro.

The reconstruction of the Tisa mound, 19 km long is the biggest investment in water management in AP Vojvodina, which would, as Knežević said, provide efficient protection.

Minister Knežević said that so far a  dozen  kms of the mound are finished, and that is only one of 44 projects in Serbia credited by the World Bank.
- The projects are actually funded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management. The loan is very favourable with a  10-year grace period and no interest at all, so that we have already started the negotiations with the World Bank to apply for a new 80 million loan, after the expire of this  one. - said Knežević to the press reminding  that in 2006 he was there too, when hundreds of people were fighting flood.

- Then  over twenty villages wee endangered as well as about 150,000 hectares of land and area with the population of over 150,000 people. Today thank to reconstruction we have   good protection – said Knežević.

The Acting Director of the Republic Directorate for Water Miodrag Pješčić says that the works, as planned, will be finished by summer 2013 and that necessary documents for the new  loan are  already prepared.
