Mayor at Kosovo
During the weekend on the North of Kosovo the Government Office for Kosovo and Metohija started the action of twinning of the cities and municipalities of this Province and the ones from all around Serbia.
The main aim of this activity is to improve the presence of all Serbian institutions at Kosovo and Metohija and to ensure better cooperation in economy, culture, education, health care and other segments of social activity, aiming to support the territorial integrity of Serbia.
Deputy Director of the Office of the Government of the Republic of Serbia for Kosovo and Metohija, Mirko Krlić, says that this action is an indicator that Serbia has not given up this Province. Together with about 120 Mayors of the cities and towns from Kosovo and Serbia he visited Leposavić, Zubin potok, Zvečani, Kosovska Mitrovica and Banjska Monastery.
The most important even was the signing of "the Chart of Intentions" in Kosovska Mitrovica, which, as announced by the Government Office for Kosovo and Metohija, would be met all the criteria so that the assemblies of the local governments could reach the decision on twinning.
Zrenjanin City was represented by the Mayor, Ivan Bošnjak, M.Sc. and the member of the City Council in charge of culture, education, national minorities and religion communities, Dubravka, Bengin – Bulovan.
According to the Mayor, Ivan Bošnjak, M.Sc. the twinning action is undertaken to support citizens of the south province.
"The representatives of the municipalities that I visited there said they did not want to be parasites of this society but to take an active part in all segment life. We, as a local government will try to offer the available capacities of the south province to potential investors who come to us. There is much potential at Kosovo, referring to tourism, agriculture, forestry and other segments, so we are going to try to adjust to them somehow and to start cooperation. When it is about twinning, our aim is to become a twinning city with Štrpce, with ski center "Brezovica" as one of the advantages – pointed out the Mayor.
In the next stage the Office for Kosovo and Metohija would keep the role of Coordinator, and when necessary, while other activities regarding international cooperation would be undertaken by local authorities.
